Grades 3-6 are going to be sending Christmas cards to the Oxford Vets Home for the holiday. If anyone has some old cards and is looking to rehome them, we would love them! We are also collecting hairspray, shaving cream, socks, adult coloring books and coloring pencils. People tend to forget there are women in the Vets home as well. Please have all items in by Dec 20th so they can be sent to the Oxford Vets Home in time for the holidays. Thank you, Mrs. J Green Sixth Grade Teacher

The New York State Department of Health has selected Downsville Central School to be a part of the annual BMI (body mass index) survey. As part of a required school health examination, a student is weighed, and his/her height is measured. These numbers are used to figure out the student’s body mass index or ‘BMI’. The BMI helps the doctor or nurse know if the student’s weight is in a healthy range or is too high or too low. Recent changes to the New York State Education Law require that BMI and weight status group be included as part of the student’s school health examination. Only summary information is sent. No names and no information about individual students are sent. However, you may choose to have your child’s information excluded from this survey report. The information sent to the New York State Department of Health will help health officials develop programs that make it easier for children to be healthier. If you do not wish to have your child’s weight status group information included as part of the Health Department’s survey this year, please contact the Health Office at 607-363-2120 by December 22nd, 2022.

Starting THIS MONDAY 12/5/22, the DCS Community Fitness Center will now be open in the MORNINGS in addition to our Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evening hours. Monday - Friday: 5:30am-7am Enter through the BUS LOOP doors (ring bell to be let in). ALL VEHICLES MUST be gone by 7am.

The After-School Program students will be preparing a Christmas holiday package for the local animal shelter. We will be accepting donations from Mon. 12/5 – Mon. 12/19. The package will be delivered on Wed. 12/21. There will be a box in the lobby of DCS to collect the items. Thank you in advance for your support! The Student Council will be holding a “Holiday Shopping Daycare Day” on Saturday, December 17th, from 9am-5pm. Parents in need of a sitter to get holiday shopping completed may bring their PreK-6, child/ren for a fun filled day of games, crafts, baking, activities and more, hosted by the Student Council. Lunch will be provided. The cost is $5 per child/ $10 for 2 or more. PLEASE turn in your forms and money by DECEMBER 2nd so we can have a head count of participants.
