We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to the Catskill Watershed Corporation for their generous donation of over $3,000 to the Agriculture program! Their support allowed us to purchase essential trout aquarium equipment and an Enviroscape model, helping bring science to life in our classroom.
This project was designed to foster environmental stewardship and teach students about one of the most important keystone species in our region: the brown trout. Throughout the year, our students took part in hands-on learning, conducting water chemistry tests, maintaining tank conditions, and caring for the trout daily through feeding and cleaning routines. They also learned about watersheds and how run-off affects the local ecosystems and water supply.
The culmination of the students hard work was a memorable field trip to release the trout into Downs Brook, right behind the school—connecting their classroom efforts directly to our local ecosystem.
We are deeply grateful to the CWC for making this opportunity possible and excited to continue the project next year!
