Dear Families,

Welcome back to another great school year! As Principal, I’m looking forward to greeting all of your children on September 8, 2010. It has been a very busy summer here at DCS with the construction project, July program, and the August Reading and Math programs.

It is important for me to be a visible presence in the school building and to be an advocate for students, staff and parents. I do believe in a disciplined learning environment but feel that I am firm, fair, and caring. Children do work best when expectations for learning and behavior are clear and consistent.

If you have not received a phone call from your bus driver by September 7th, please call Mr. Ormandy at 363-2114.

Open House will be held on

 Wednesday October 6, 2010

  • Elementary – 5:00 – 6:30 pm
  • Middle School and High School – 6:00 – 7:30 pm

A new year brings changes to staffing. We will miss those who have left and welcome those who join us.

  • Mrs. Ann LePinnet our Second Grade teacher has retired.
  • Ms. Cassie Finnis our Social Studies teacher has retired. Miss Claudia Cavallo our Spanish teacher will now take over the Social Studies position.
  • Miss Stephanie Brock will be our new Spanish teacher.
  • Mrs. Sowizral our Family and Consumer Science teacher has resigned.

Please note that there is a 5 cent increase for and breakfast and lunch:

  • Breakfast   .90
  • Lunch   $1.65
  • Reduced Breakfast .25
  • Reduced Lunch   .25
  • Applications for free and reduced lunch are included in the calendar and are taken anytime during the year.
  • If you are approved for free/reduced lunch this means you are approved for breakfast.

.You are your child’s first and most crucial teacher. If education is a priority for you, so it will be for your child.

Here are a few simple ideas that might help you and your family gear up for the school year.

  • Make a plan for after school activities.
  • Schedule adequate time for homework, play, clubs, sports, and practice.
  • Scale back TV time.
  • Establish bed times for school nights.
  • Collect important phone numbers. Update doctor, work, and other listings for the school office, after school programs, and one or two neighbors.
  • Create a car pool, if possible. Compare schedules with friends, and determine which parents can drive kids when you cannot drive.
  • Have a back up plan. Find another parent who will exchange school pickup favors in case you get ill or delayed.
  • Spruce up a study space for your child(ren). Include pens, pencils, dictionary, and other needed supplies.
  • Get children in the habit of getting ready the night before school. Set out clothes and put the backpack by the front door.

I trust these few hints will help, and I hope this will be one of the best years ever! You can depend on us to do all that we can to be cooperative, helpful, and inspiring. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I check my e-mail in the morning and during the afternoon. You can reach me at tmcnamara@dcseagles.org or call me at 363-2111.
